Colored Fiber Cement Panel and Shou Sugi Ban Wood Custom Home Siding

Stevenson Project

Synapse Construction provided custom siding on this beautiful two-story home. Materials used for the installation included integral colored fiber cement panels installed as open joint rain screen and Accoya Shou Sugi Ban Wood siding. Traditional Sugi wood (cryptomeria japonica L.f., also called Japanese cedar) was applied using the ancient exterior Japanese siding technique called Shou Sugi Ban. This method preserves wood by charring it with fire. The wood is charred, cooled, cleaned and finished with natural oil. One of the trickier details was aligning the exterior Shou Sugi Ban siding on the exterior with the interior siding around the fireplace stack as they are only separated by a pane of glass and are intended to visually connect the two spaces.

This project was completed in September 2017.

“We had the pleasure of using Synapse Construction for all new siding, and replacing windows and sliding glass doors. They sincerely care about their work and doing the best job possible, every time. They are an incredible group of true professionals that take pride in their craft, and I couldn't be happier with the results.”
