Lake Forest Park – Leaking Siding & Water Intrusion Repair

Project Overview

A homeowner in Lake Forest Park reached out after noticing water leaking inside the house near the roofline. The issue appeared during heavy rains, with visible staining on interior walls and deterioration of the exterior 1×8 TK cedar channel siding.

Upon inspection, we found the primary cause: the gutter terminated directly into the siding without proper kick-out flashing, allowing water to run behind the building envelope. In addition, the windows lacked head flashing, increasing the risk of ongoing moisture intrusion.

Issues Identified

  • Water intrusion at the gutter end / roof-to-wall connection

  • Missing kick-out flashing, causing water to bypass the gutter

  • No head flashing above windows

  • Moisture-stained and failing cedar channel siding

  • Early signs of rot inside the wall assembly

These conditions can escalate quickly in the Pacific Northwest’s wet climate, making a prompt repair essential.

Our Scope of Work

To stop the leak and restore the exterior envelope, we are performing:

  • Full water intrusion investigation

  • Selective removal of damaged cedar siding

  • Installation of proper kick-out flashing

  • Adding head flashing above windows

  • Re-waterproofing the wall assembly

  • Exterior painting to match existing finish

“After” photos will be shared once repairs and painting are complete.

Materials

  • 1×8 TK cedar channel siding

  • Building wrap + flashing membranes

  • Sheet metal kick-out flashing

  • Custom head flashing
